Residents of Colonia Fundadores blocked the main entrance to Cabo San Lucas before municipal officials intervened and negotiated a peaceful resolution. The road blockade, which shut down the primary access route into the city, ended after the Los Cabos municipal government dispatched two senior officials to meet with protesters on site.

Carlos Castro Ceseña, director of Social Development for Los Cabos, and Karina de la O Uribe, the municipal delegate for Cabo San Lucas, arrived at the blockade to speak directly with residents. After negotiations, protesters agreed to clear the road in exchange for a formal commitment to a follow-up meeting.

Signed Agreement Sets Friday Meeting

Officials produced a signed document on the spot guaranteeing a formal meeting for Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m. That session will bring together both state and municipal officials to address community welfare demands raised by the Colonia Fundadores residents. The specific nature of those demands has not been made public.

Once the agreement was signed, protesters cleared the road and traffic resumed. The main entrance to Cabo San Lucas was fully reopened.

Road Blockades a Recurring Issue in Los Cabos

This is not the first time road blockades have disrupted traffic in the Los Cabos municipality. In March 2026, a trucker blockade near the Fonatur roundabout in San José del Cabo threatened to shut down the main highway to the Los Cabos International Airport (SJD). That protest, organized by CATEM union drivers over approximately 10 million pesos (roughly $500,000 USD) in unpaid wages from a construction company, was also resolved through government mediation before it fully materialized.

Earlier that same month, families blocked the airport road after several youths went missing, lifting the blockade only after the young people were located. Local authorities have previously stated they will pursue legal action against protesters who block major tourist arteries, with the Attorney General’s Office and the National Guard opening case files against individuals involved in such disruptions.

Colonia Fundadores sits along the main road leading into downtown Cabo San Lucas from the Transpeninsular Highway. Any blockade at that location can snarl traffic for drivers heading to the marina, hotels, and the central tourist district. If the Friday meeting does not satisfy residents’ demands, further protests remain possible.
