The Los Cabos municipal government and federal port authority ASIPONA have agreed on a coordinated improvement plan for the Cabo San Lucas Marina, targeting sanitary infrastructure, electrical systems, and commercial compliance across one of the region’s most heavily visited areas.

Officials from multiple city departments met with ASIPONA representatives to draft the plan, which covers rehabilitation of sanitary infrastructure, inspection of damaged electrical conduits, and grease trap compliance checks at hotels, restaurants, and commercial establishments along the marina.

Joint Walkthrough Set for July 8

A supervised walkthrough of the marina is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, at 10:00 a.m. Representatives from public works, ecology, transit, civil protection, and fiscal inspection will all participate. The inspection is designed to identify specific maintenance needs and verify that businesses are meeting environmental and safety codes.

The marina serves as the main point of arrival for cruise ship passengers, who reach shore via tender boats. It also houses yacht slips, waterfront restaurants, tour operator kiosks, and retail shops. The boardwalk area sees thousands of visitors daily during peak season.

Part of a Broader Downtown Overhaul

The coordination effort follows a broader push to improve conditions in downtown Cabo San Lucas. Earlier this year, the city council and the port administration launched an urban rehabilitation program that included cleaning and repainting transit zones, pruning palm trees, and deploying a mechanical sweeper along the marina boardwalk to handle trash collection.

That earlier effort focused largely on the pedestrian experience, addressing complaints about crowded walkways, aggressive timeshare vendors, and general disrepair. The new plan goes deeper, targeting the infrastructure behind the scenes: sewer lines, electrical conduits, and grease management systems that affect both public health and the marina’s physical condition.

What To Watch For

The July 8 walkthrough will be the first concrete test of the plan. Six municipal departments will send representatives, making it one of the most coordinated infrastructure inspections the marina has seen. For businesses along the waterfront, the grease trap inspections could mean enforcement actions if they are not in compliance.
