BCS Tax Offices Cut Hours Due to Union Staffing Shortage

The Baja California Sur Secretary of Finance has reduced operating hours at its tax service centers across the state, citing staffing shortfalls caused by recent union assemblies. The Centros Integrales de Servicios (CIS), the state’s main in-person offices for tax payments, vehicle registration, and other financial paperwork, are now open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until further notice.

Services Continue With Shorter Hours

The state finance agency stressed that no services have been suspended. All transactions normally available at CIS offices, including property tax payments, vehicle registration, and other government financial processes, remain accessible during the shortened window.

The reduced schedule stems from ongoing labor negotiations between the BCS state government, public employee unions, and municipal authorities. Union assemblies pulled enough workers from CIS locations to force the schedule change, though the agency did not specify how many employees were affected or which offices saw the largest shortfalls.

Online Payments Available Around the Clock

The Secretary of Finance is encouraging residents to use the state’s online payment portal at finanzas.bcs.gob.mx as an alternative to in-person visits. The portal handles many of the same transactions available at CIS windows, including tax payments and certain vehicle-related fees.

For those who must visit in person, the 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. window means arriving early is important. CIS offices in La Paz and Los Cabos can see long lines during normal operations, and compressed hours will likely increase wait times during peak morning periods.

No Timeline for Return to Normal

The state government has described the reduced hours as temporary. Normal schedules are expected to resume once labor negotiations conclude. However, no specific date or deadline has been announced for when talks will wrap up or when full staffing will return to CIS offices.

Property tax season in BCS typically runs on an annual cycle, with early payment discounts available in November and December. Residents with upcoming deadlines should plan accordingly and consider the online portal to avoid delays.

The announcement was published by the BCS state government on its official website, bcs.gob.mx.
