The Baja California Sur State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons (CEBP) has relocated its offices to a new facility in La Paz. The commission’s new address is Kilometer 12.5 on the Carretera al Norte in Ejido Chametla, next to the Psychiatric Hospital on the northern outskirts of the city.

The move brings expanded capabilities for the agency. The new location includes a Temporary Human Remains Storage Center and dedicated departmental areas designed to improve the commission’s day-to-day operations.

New Contact Information and Hours

Families and individuals who need to reach the CEBP can call 612-138-1439 during business hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. A 24-hour line is also available at 612-102-5582. Anyone who has previously filed a case or is working with the commission should update their records with the new address.

The Carretera al Norte runs north out of central La Paz toward Pichilingue and the ferry terminal. Ejido Chametla sits roughly 12 kilometers from the city center, making the office accessible by car or public transit along the main highway corridor.

Why the Relocation Matters

Baja California Sur has faced a growing number of disappearances in recent years. Search collectives, including the well-known group Búsqueda x La Paz, have organized field searches and pressed state authorities to invest more resources in locating missing people. The addition of a human remains storage facility at the new CEBP office is a concrete step toward centralizing forensic and identification work under one roof.

State search commissions across Mexico were established under the 2017 General Law on Forced Disappearance. Each state is required to maintain a commission that coordinates search efforts, works with families, and liaises with federal authorities. The BCS commission serves all five municipalities in the state: La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú, Loreto, and Mulegé.

The relocation was announced by the Baja California Sur state government on its official website, bcs.gob.mx.
