Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda led a mass card replacement event in Tijuana on April 13 for the Tarjeta Violeta program, which provides financial support to more than 100,000 female heads of household across the state.
The replacement is necessary because the chips on existing cards are expiring. Beneficiaries must pick up and activate their new cards before April 28 to receive the next scheduled deposit on April 30. Women who fail to update their cards risk delays in accessing funds.
How Beneficiaries Will Be Contacted
State Welfare Secretary Netzahualcóyotl Jáuregui Santillán said officials will contact each recipient by phone with specific pickup dates, times, and locations in their municipality. The replacement process covers all five municipalities in the state: Tijuana, Mexicali, Ensenada, Tecate, and Rosarito.
The Tarjeta Violeta is a bimonthly economic support program created by the Baja California state government. It targets women who are the sole financial providers for their families. During the Tijuana event, the governor described the program as having evolved from a simple economic aid into an established right for working women in the state.
What to Know About the Deadline
The April 28 activation deadline is firm. The state government has not announced any extension or alternative for recipients who miss it. Those who do not activate in time could see their April 30 deposit delayed.
Beneficiaries who have not received a phone call from state officials should contact their local Secretaría de Bienestar (State Welfare Department) office to confirm their replacement schedule. The program serves Mexican residents, but employers or family members of recipients may want to help ensure the deadline is met.
