The Los Cabos municipal government began a five-month dengue mosquito fumigation campaign on Monday, deploying crews to four Cabo San Lucas neighborhoods as the summer rainy season gets underway.

Acting municipal president José Manuel Larumbe Pineda announced the program on July 6, with fumigation units starting in El Panteón, Fuentes del Paraíso, Praderas Doradas, and Pueblo Nuevo. The crews will move through the municipality on a rolling daily schedule, targeting a new set of neighborhoods each day.

Week One Schedule in Cabo San Lucas

According to the official Los Cabos municipal website, the first week’s calendar covers multiple Cabo San Lucas colonias. On Tuesday, July 7, crews will work in Bella Vista and Gastélum, Quinta Etapa. Wednesday, July 8, brings coverage to Villa Bonita, El Taste, Chamizal, and Gastélum, Primera Etapa.

Thursday, July 9, the brigades will fumigate Caribe and Caribe INVI. Friday, July 10, they will treat Cabo Fierro and Palmas Homex. Schedules for the remaining Cabo San Lucas neighborhoods, San José del Cabo, and outlying municipal delegations will be posted through official municipal channels.

Why It Matters During Rainy Season

Dengue season in Baja California Sur peaks during the summer months, when tropical storms and afternoon downpours create standing water where the Aedes aegypti mosquito breeds. The state recorded 680 dengue cases in 2025, concentrated in residential colonias rather than tourist zones.

Los Cabos has also been participating in a separate biological control effort called the Wolbachia Project, which releases mosquitoes carrying a naturally occurring bacteria that prevents them from transmitting dengue, Zika, and chikungunya to humans. The Baja California Sur Health Secretariat (SSA) launched the second phase of that program late last year.

What Residents Should Do

Larumbe Pineda urged residents to do their part. “The health of our people is a priority. We are going to tackle dengue head-on, colonia by colonia, but we need every family to help by keeping their yards clean,” he said in the official announcement.

Municipal authorities are asking households to eliminate containers that collect rainwater, clean patios, and take preventive measures to stop mosquito breeding on their properties. Residents and property owners should check the official Los Cabos municipal website and social media channels for updated fumigation calendars covering their specific neighborhoods.
