The Los Cabos municipal government has launched a series of free mobile health clinics targeting hard-to-reach neighborhoods across the municipality, bringing doctors, dentists, and specialists to communities where residents often lack regular healthcare access.
More than 170 residents in three Cabo San Lucas colonias, Las Palmas, El Caribe, and Leonardo Gastélum, have already received care through the program. The clinics are a joint effort between the municipality, the Mexican Navy, the Red Cross, and ISSSTE (the federal government employees’ social security institute).
Services Offered at No Cost
The mobile clinics provide a wide range of first-contact medical services. These include general consultations, chronic disease screening, dentistry, psychology, nutrition counseling, and measles booster vaccinations. No appointment or prior registration is required. Residents simply show up at the designated location.
The municipality is also covering the cost of follow-up care for patients who need it. That includes referrals to specialists, controlled medications, ultrasounds, and CT scans, all at no charge to the patient.
Upcoming Clinic Dates and Locations
The program has several more stops scheduled in April. On April 17, clinics will operate in La Ballena and Puerto Nuevo in San José del Cabo. The team moves to Miraflores on April 20, a small agricultural town about 40 minutes north of San José del Cabo in the Sierra de la Laguna foothills.
On April 22, the clinics will visit the Santiago camp, located near the historic town of Santiago, a popular gateway for Sierra de la Laguna hikes. The final announced stop is April 24 in Santa Cruz, a community in the La Ribera area along the East Cape coast.
Why It Matters in Los Cabos
Los Cabos has grown rapidly in recent years, with construction and tourism driving population increases in outlying colonias. Many workers in these communities lack employer-provided health insurance and live far from the municipality’s main hospitals and clinics. The free mobile health clinics are designed to close that gap by bringing care directly to these neighborhoods.
The East Cape stops near La Ribera and the Sierra de la Laguna foothills serve some of the most isolated communities in the municipality, where the nearest hospital can be more than an hour’s drive away.
The program was announced by the Los Cabos municipal government on its official website at loscabos.gob.mx.
