Baja California Sur will activate 94 vaccination points across all five municipalities starting Saturday, April 25, as part of Mexico’s Semana Nacional de Vacunación. The week-long campaign runs through May 2 and aims to deliver roughly 9,600 doses through a combination of fixed posts, mobile brigades, and rural community outreach.

State Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte announced the campaign from La Paz on Tuesday. The official kickoff ceremony will take place Saturday morning at the Leonardo Gastélum primary school in Los Cabos. All public health institutions in the state will participate simultaneously, and vaccinations are free of charge.

Measles Cases Prompt Urgency

The campaign comes after BCS confirmed 15 measles cases so far in 2025. All 15 patients have since recovered without serious complications. Still, Guluarte issued a direct appeal to parents, urging them to review their children’s vaccination records before the campaign begins.

Of particular concern are infants aged 6 to 11 months, who require a measles “dose zero.” This preliminary dose does not appear on standard Mexican vaccination cards (cartillas de vacunación), meaning some parents may not realize their child needs it. The dose zero protects infants during the gap before their first scheduled measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine at 12 months.

Over 70,000 Doses Already Delivered in 2025

Health officials reported that more than 70,000 vaccine doses have already been administered statewide since January. The 9,600 additional doses planned for the April 25 to May 2 campaign will cover multiple vaccines across all age groups, not just measles.

The 94 vaccination sites are spread across the municipalities of La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú, Mulegé, and Loreto. Mobile brigades will reach rural and remote communities that lack permanent health clinics. Parents and residents can visit any participating public health facility during the campaign without an appointment.

Families with young children who are behind on immunizations can use the week as a catch-up opportunity. No Mexican residency documents are required to receive vaccines at public health facilities during national vaccination campaigns.
