The Baja California Sur state government has held five free mobile health clinics in Los Cabos neighborhoods so far this month, offering medical consultations, disease screening, vaccinations, and dengue prevention services at no cost to residents.

Health Jurisdiction 4, the state agency overseeing medical services in the Los Cabos municipality, organized the clinics in coordination with several federal and local partners. The Mexican Navy, National Guard, ISSSTE (the federal government employees’ social security institute), and the Los Cabos municipal government all participated in the outreach effort.

Five Neighborhoods Served This Month

The most recent clinic took place in Pueblo Nuevo, a colonia on the north side of San José del Cabo. Earlier events in April were held in Las Palmas, El Caribe, Gastélum, and La Ballena. All five are residential neighborhoods that often lack easy access to preventive health services.

Services at each clinic included general medical consultations, screening for diabetes and hypertension, and cardiometabolic risk assessments. Health workers also administered vaccines as part of Mexico’s universal vaccination program.

Dengue Prevention a Key Focus

Dengue prevention was a central component of each clinic. Workers distributed larvicide, which kills mosquito larvae in standing water before they can mature into disease-carrying adults. Los Cabos typically sees its highest dengue risk during the summer rainy season from July through October, and public health officials use the spring months to get ahead of mosquito breeding cycles.

The state Secretariat of Health led the medical teams at each location. The clinics are part of a broader BCS strategy to bring preventive care directly into underserved colonias rather than relying solely on hospital and clinic visits. Many of these neighborhoods have grown rapidly as workers migrate to Los Cabos for tourism and construction jobs, often outpacing local health infrastructure.

No schedule for additional April clinics has been announced. Residents can contact Health Jurisdiction 4 through the BCS state health secretariat for information on future events.
