Two sisters were shot and killed inside a home in Tijuana’s Fuentes del Valle neighborhood Monday afternoon, in what authorities are investigating as a double femicide. The shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Calle Varas in the Zona Este section of the city, according to Zeta Tijuana.

Witnesses told investigators that the gunman was the romantic partner of one of the two victims. The names of the women and the suspect have not been publicly released. Punto Norte, a Tijuana outlet, confirmed the killings took place inside a residence in the colonia.

Fuentes del Valle sits in Tijuana’s eastern zone, a sprawling residential area well removed from the tourist corridor along Avenida Revolución and the San Ysidro border crossing. The neighborhood is primarily working class, home to families rather than visitors.

Femicide, the killing of women because of their gender, remains one of Tijuana’s most persistent security crises. Under Mexican federal law, femicide carries stiffer penalties than standard homicide, with sentences of up to 60 years. Intimate partner violence accounts for a large share of femicide cases nationwide. A Sky News investigation found that reported femicides across Mexico rose 137% between 2015 and 2021, with Tijuana consistently ranking among the country’s most dangerous cities for women.

Monday’s double killing adds to a grim toll in a city that recorded hundreds of homicides in 2025. Baja California state prosecutors have not yet released further details about the investigation or whether a suspect is in custody.
