The Los Cabos municipal government launched its Semana Santa 2026 security operation on March 30, deploying 1,700 personnel and 250 vehicles across beaches, highways, and neighborhoods through April 5. The coordinated effort involves 38 agencies from all three levels of government: federal, state, and municipal.

ZOFEMAT (the Federal Maritime Zone authority) is contributing 205 of those personnel along with 50 motorized units stationed at high-traffic beach access points. The ZOFEMAT fleet includes jet skis, ATVs, and heavy machinery. Crews pre-positioned trash containers and portable restrooms at beaches ahead of the holiday rush.

Aquatic Rescue Teams Join Beach Operations

For the first time, the Los Cabos Public Safety Department has added police officers trained in aquatic rescue to the beach deployment. These officers will work alongside ZOFEMAT lifeguards to cut emergency response times in the water. ZOFEMAT lifeguards use colored flags to indicate ocean conditions: a red or black flag means the water is closed and swimmers must stay on the sand.

Surveillance and aid posts are set up along the Transpeninsular Highway tourist corridor, the Yenekamú bridge, the road to Todos Santos, and the turnoffs to Playa Chileno, Santa Anita, and Miraflores. Posts also cover the East Cape communities of Buena Vista, La Ribera, and Cabo Pulmo.

Neighborhood Patrols and Crime Prevention

Public Safety Director Christopher Jordi López Monge announced that police will also intensify patrols in residential neighborhoods across the municipality. The goal is to protect homes left empty while families travel for the holiday week. López Monge said officers will coordinate with prosecutors and investigators to respond quickly to any incidents.

He noted that recent operations had already resulted in arrests of suspects linked to commercial robberies. López Monge urged residents to file formal reports if they become crime victims, saying this helps authorities identify patterns and high-risk zones.

The launch ceremony drew members of the Los Cabos city council, state officials, federal representatives, and military personnel. Authorities asked the public to follow safety flags and official instructions at all beach locations during the week.
