Baja California Attorney General Ma. Elena Andrade Ramírez announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a May 6 armed attack at a home in Mexicali’s Villa Colonial neighborhood. Eduardo Carlos “N” was taken into custody after a six-day investigation into the shooting of a 36-year-old man at the residence.
The Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s state prosecutor’s office, did not release the victim’s name or current medical condition. The agency identified the suspect using the standard Mexican legal convention of withholding the full surname during an active case.
Six-Day Investigation Leads to Arrest
The shooting took place on May 6 at a residence in Villa Colonial, a residential neighborhood in eastern Mexicali. According to the attorney general’s announcement, investigators worked over the following six days to identify and locate the suspect before making the arrest.
No details about a possible motive have been released. The FGE has not said whether the suspect and victim knew each other or whether additional suspects are being sought.
Violent Crime in Mexicali’s Residential Areas
Villa Colonial sits in a largely residential section of Mexicali, the capital of Baja California. The city of roughly one million people sits directly across the border from Calexico, California. Shootings at private residences in Mexicali’s colonias have been a persistent concern in recent years, though many go unsolved.
The relatively quick turnaround from incident to arrest in this case is notable. State prosecutors in Baja California have faced criticism over clearance rates for violent crimes, and the six-day timeline from shooting to arrest is faster than many cases in the region.
Attorney General Andrade Ramírez took office as part of the current Baja California state government. Her office oversees criminal investigations across the state’s five municipalities, including Mexicali, Tijuana, Ensenada, Tecate, and Playas de Rosarito.
The case remains under investigation. No court date has been announced for Eduardo Carlos “N.” This story was first reported by Zeta Tijuana.
